I'd recon they would gain way more funding from a syncing service if they lowered the price for Sync. But the website is pretty clear on them offering Catalyst as far as funding goes and Sync is only being sold as a syncing service, more so than a integral part of their funding model. I have not dug very far and have found no extended statements on the matter of funding.

Stating something as correct sounds very authoritarian, when only Shinda and Erica knows the full motivations behind the pricing for Sync and Publish and to which extent they aim to capitalize on each of their different offerings. There could also be plans for businesses, personal and family deals as the use case are most likely very different. So that I at least can assess what black magic wizardry I'm paying for. That service syncs whatever I want from which ever directory I want to whatever directory I want - heavy stuff, music photos, video clips, steam library, massive git repos and such*. This service sets me back about 5USD/month when paying whatever annual amount I pay. ~500gb cloud storage with transfer quotas I've never even come close to reaching. Got end to end encrypted two-way file synchronization through mega.io.

So, how does Obsidian Sync work? Like, how do you sync stuff to it, and does it work well? Any problems you run into with PC and iOS devices, or is it perfect? Do you consider it worth the $96 per year? That's a lot of money but I think I could swing it as a business expense since I use it a lot for my small business, if everyone is like "yeah it's the best thing ever created." But now that I'm a few months in, I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep using Obsidian because it really just works well for how my brain operates. I was hesitant to get Obsidian Sync because honestly I just wanted to use the program for a while and see if it was the right tool for me, I didn't want to be out nearly a hundred bucks if I decided using Obsidian was just a phase and it wasn't really right for my needs. I could copy/paste files from my PC vault into the iCloud vault, but then if I delete or change things in one vault there could be discrepancies on the other. But it's clunky, and I can't access my main vault from anything other than my PC.
This is a decent workaround, at least now my main vault isn't duplicating and/or losing files constantly. I recently just removed my main vault from iCloud entirely, instead running it solely on my PC, and created a new vault just called "iCloud Vault" where I can write stuff on my phone or iPad and then later import it to my main vault using my PC to copy the files over. If you've been around an Obsidian forum or this sub for more than ten minutes you've probably heard how bad syncing with iCloud is.

My biggest problem? I have an iPhone and iPad, and a Windows PC. It's filled a niche in my life that I was previously trying to use Notion or Scrivener or half a dozen other apps for. Over the past couple of months, I've fallen absolutely in love with Obsidian. I bought Obsidian Sync like an hour ago and got it all set up.
